BIOTRONIK and Cardiology Experts Support Heartbeat International in Top Education

Company Links Heartbeat International with Globally Celebrated Cardiologists for Scientific Symposium at this Year’s Interamerican Congress of Cardiology

LAKE OSWEGO, Oregon and SANTIAGO, Chile, December 4 2015, BIOTRONIK, a leading manufacturer of cardio- and endovascular medical technology, will put its charity partner Heartbeat International (HBI) on the world stage of cardiology education at the 25th Interamerican Congress of Cardiology (ICC) in Santiago, Chile.

Some of the most renowned cardiology experts in the Americas will join HBI at a symposium entitled “Advancement in Cardiac Rhythm Management.” Speaking ahead of the event, where he will address the audience on advancements in catheter-based ablation, Dr. Larry Chinitz, the Alvin Benjamin and Kenneth Coyle, Sr. Family Professor of Medicine and Cardiac Electrophysiology, Department of Medicine, at NYU Langone Medical Center said: “I’m very much looking forward to this unique educational program, which will feature an acclaimed faculty and focus on educating leaders in the field about the treatment of patients with cardiac rhythm disorders.”

Since 1984, the non-profit humanitarian organization HBI has implanted cardiac devices for disadvantaged patients in developing countries. Since 2010, BIOTRONIK has donated the vast majority of these lifesaving devices—over 5,600 in total. This year alone, the partnership is on track to save 500 lives. BIOTRONIK has furthered its support by funding the recently opened HBI Heart Center in the Dominican capital of Santo Domingo. The scientific symposium at ICC adds another dimension to the company’s support for the worthy charity.

“Cardiac arrhythmia patients, including those in the world’s poorest regions, need to feel secure in knowing that both the devices we donate and the training their implanting physicians receive is of the highest quality,” explained Marlou Janssen, President of BIOTRONIK, Inc. “This symposium brings together leading global experts on the latest technology and advancements in electrophysiology, offering both great educational value and a chance for more cardiology professionals to learn about how our partner HBI works to saves lives all over the world, which is why we’re proud to support it.”
